We prefer to plan ahead and schedule surgical procedures, but emergencies can develop quickly. If emergency surgery, such as a laceration repair or ovariohysterectomy to remove an infected uterus, is required, our team is prepared to jump into action to give your pet the best chance for a successful recovery.

A mobile veterinary surgeon, Caleb Vaughan, DVM, is available by appointment to perform orthopedic procedures and more complex soft tissue surgeries in our hospital, instead of you having to take your pet to a specialty hospital.

We understand how stressful it can be when your pet undergoes anesthesia and surgery. Although every procedure involves a small amount of risk, we use the safest techniques and methods available to ensure your pet’s safety. Fortunately, surgical complications are rare, and we will discuss any risks involved prior to your pet’s procedure.

Safety precautions we use to keep your pet safe include:

Pre-anesthetic exam and diagnostics — We will perform a thorough physical exam and blood work prior to your pet’s procedure to ensure they are healthy, and they can metabolize the anesthetic medications used.
Individualized anesthetic protocols — We will formulate an anesthetic protocol for your pet based on their unique needs and health status, instead of using the same medications and techniques for every patient. This way, we can choose the safest plan for your pet.
Constant monitoring — Our highly trained veterinary team will be by your pet’s side, monitoring their heart rate, respirations, temperature, and blood pressure, throughout the procedure. They will closely watch for any sign of complications so they can intercede before a problem develops.

What safety precautions are taken during my pet’s surgery?

What can I expect when my pet has surgery?

We will let you know about any necessary preparations, such as fasting, prior to your pet’s surgery. Typically, you will drop your pet off in the morning so we can begin preparing them for the procedure. We will let you know once your pet’s procedure is completed and they are recovering from anesthesia. Once your pet is fully awake and can walk unassisted, they can typically go home with you, unless the procedure requires overnight hospitalization for further monitoring.
