Hospital Boarding Policies

Vaccinations:

All pets must be up to date on their vaccinations, and it is the owner’s responsibility to make sure that proof of current vaccines is on file with the hospital at the time of admission. If vaccinations have been administered at another veterinary hospital and they are closed at the time of admission, and proof of those vaccinations is not on file, the vaccines will be brought current at the time of admission, and the client will be charged accordingly. If any of your pet’s vaccinations are past due, they must be inoculated before boarding and will also be charged accordingly. Boarding pets less than 16 weeks of age or those with fewer than 2 sets of the DA2PP vaccines given 2 weeks prior to boarding is not recommended, because they may not have developed complete immunity. Pets that are too young and have not completed their entire vaccine series may not yet be protected. Owners will need to accept any risk of infections if this recommendation is breached.

Required Vaccinations

Dogs: Rabies, DA2PP, and Bordetella

Cats: Rabies, FVRCP

Recommended Vaccinations

Dogs: Leptospirosis, canine influenza (both strains)

Cats: Leukemia

Intestinal/External Parasites

All pets must be free of parasites, including fleas and ticks. If your pet is found to have parasites, including fleas and ticks, they will be treated with the proper dewormer and parasite control medication; you will be charged accordingly.

Rates, Payment, and Pick Up

Dog and cat boarding rates are a flat fee, regardless of weight and size. Other services provided to your pet(s) during boarding are charged at regular cost. Payment in full is expected when your pet(s) are discharged. Boarding is charged by the number of nights stayed; charges are updated daily. Your pet(s) must be picked up between 9 AM and 5 PM Monday through Thursday and between 9 AM and 4 PM on Friday. Discharging after hours is not allowed. The kennel and hospital close at 6 PM Monday through Thursday. On Friday, Foland Veterinary Services closes at 5 PM and is closed all day Saturday and Sunday.

Medical Illness Policy

One of the advantages of boarding your pet(s) at Foland Veterinary Services is that medical attention is readily available to your pet(s). If your pet(s) become ill or require medical/surgical attention, we will do our best to contact the owner/agent or emergency contact. If we are unable to contact you, the owner/agent, or emergency contact, your pet(s) will be treated as we deem necessary until you, the owner/agent, or emergency contact can be reached. You acknowledge that in the event of your pet’s illness, the staff at Foland Veterinary Services may not be able to contact you immediately. Nonetheless, you authorize us to initiate appropriate treatment until you, the owner/agent, or emergency contact can be reached. You agree to pay all related expenses associated with the treatment of your pet(s) until you are available to discuss further care and related fees with Foland Veterinary Services. If your pet(s) are currently on medication, please inform our staff. The medication must be in the original veterinary-labeled container with legible instructions for administration and with the prescribing veterinarian’s phone number. Fees for medication that needs to be filled or refilled during the time your pet(s) are boarding with us will be charged accordingly. As the owner/agent, you confirm that your pet(s) appear to be free of contagious diseases and have not bitten anyone in the past 10 days.

Inherent Conditions

Occasionally, pets may develop problems from environmental and dietary changes that are often unavoidable in boarding environments. This facility cannot guarantee the health of any pet, but pledges to provide appropriate care to all boarders. Problems may include, but are not limited to: weight loss or gain, rough fur coat or fur loss, kennel cough or upper respiratory infection, coughing or sneezing, vomiting, diarrhea, fleas or ticks, parasites, and self-trauma such as scratching, biting their skin, or rubbing their nose raw from trying to bury their food. We take great care so that these problems won’t occur, and we treat our boarders promptly, if needed. However, you agree to hold this facility harmless for these conditions that can develop and understand that this facility is not financially responsible for these inherent conditions, if they do occur.

Personal Belongings

Leaving personal belongings, i.e., toys, blankets, bedding, collars, leashes, etc., is allowed but discouraged due to sanitation and orderliness requirements. The facility is not responsible for lost, soiled, or damaged belongings.

Abandonment

Please notify us if there is any change in plans for your pet’s departure date. If you, the owner, fail to pick up your pet(s) or do not notify us of a change in your pet’s departure date and either we do not hear from you or we are unable to contact you or your authorized agent and emergency contact within 10 days after your pet’s scheduled departure date, this facility will consider your pet(s) abandoned according to the animal abandonment laws in the state of Texas and will be handled in accordance with the state law. Please be advised that you, the pet’s owner, will be responsible for the fees accrued during boarding and any other fees or legal services incurred by this facility as a result of the abandonment.

If you have any questions or problems, please call our caring staff at Foland Veterinary Services at (817) 598-0886. Thank you!
